I was surfing Facebook the other day, when a friend wrote about her 12-year-old needing a permission slip signed for a school-provided Chromebook.
Amazing.
I remember having access to the computer lab in college; now youth are being exposed to technology much earlier.
This got me thinking about technology and where things are headed.
ZDNet delivers technology news and trend analysis to IT professionals and decision makers.
This site offers some really interesting food for thought. And, it presents each piece in an accessible and engaging manner.
Also, if you’re looking for tech news beyond US coverage, the site features several editions, including Asia, Australia, Europe, India, and the UK.
One post that immediately caught my eye was 13 Best Privacy Tools for Staying Secure, which goes over several privacy-enhancing apps, extensions, and services to protect you both on- and offline, from “encrypted instant messengers to secure browsers and operating systems.”

Engadget says it’s “the definitive guide to this connected life.”
Full disclosure: Engadget is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. It features some really interesting pieces, and it’s easy to stick around and read for a wee bit of time.
“Technology isn’t all about bits and processors,” the site says. “It’s the car with no driver, human organs printed in a lab and leisurely flights into space. It’s the future and we’re here to tell you all about it.”
The runner in me found this post pretty intriguing: Nike’s iPhone Fuel app no longer needs a FuelBand to track your activity.
Other notable posts include Google’s Android Chorus is 300 devices together in tinny harmony, ESPN is getting a brand-wide makeover, starting with its iOS app, and Nike’s SNKRS app puts a shoe store in your pocket.

Bits is the New York Times’ blog covering the business of technology.
The blog features in-depth pieces on mobile, privacy, security, big data, and cloud computing, among other topics.
Bits is pretty neat, and the quality of writing is what you expect of the New York Times.
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the blog posted this fascinating piece called Love in the Time of Twitter. You also could get lost in a host of posts, including Aiming to Ease App Discovery, Apple Pairs with Pinterest, Uber’s Business Model Could Change Your Work, and Yelp Buys Eat24, an Online Food-Ordering Service, for $134 Million.
