Blog Profiles: Men’s Interest Blogs, Volume 1
Welcome to Blog Profiles. Each week, we select an industry or subject and a handful of sites that do a good job promoting, contributing, and blogging about the space. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tell us why @BeyondBylines.
This week’s Blog Profiles is dedicated to the men of the blogging world. As I searched for blogs to feature, I found a treasure trove of brilliant advice and insight in to the mind of men. I don’t know why I haven’t been reading these all along!
Make sure to also check out Men’s Interest Blogs, Volume 2.
1. The Food in My Beard
I must admit the title, The Food in My Beard, is what drew me to this blog. Founder and writer Dan Whalen started this “recipe playground” about seven years ago and has since posted over 1000 recipes. Recently, he took his blog to the next level and wrote a cookbook. He also does restaurant menu consulting. This is one busy guy.
Whalen’s food photos are dangerous – one look at Plantain Cajeta Ice Cream will send you to the store for plantains. But, be sure to buy extra so you can make his Tostones Sliders too.

2. Nerd Fitness
I’ve been following Nerd Fitness for at least a year now and it’s my favorite fitness blog. It’s full of nerdy references and is laid out like a comic book. Plus, creator Steve Kamb writes like he is talking to you – not at you – about eating right and working out, with lots of references to superheroes and video games.
I’m super lazy about working out, but his explanation on temptation building makes it hard for me not to follow it. For a complete list of the best tips from Nerd Fitness, check out the World’s Quickest Advice Column, which also includes links to some of the best articles on the blog.

3. The Rugged Male
Inspiring men about women, whiskey and proper manners, The Rugged Male, had me at manners. Okay, whiskey and then manners, but regardless, this is my kind of blog.
I now feel pretty confident I can change my own oil and that we have all the necessary tools in our toolbox at home.
As a Shameless fan and an even bigger fan of Kev, I was riveted by the interview with Steve Howey. He is so down to earth! I feel like I was at the bar with them, eavesdropping on their conversation.
