Facebook has sent a team to Rio de Janeiro to help NBC take social command of the Olympics. Digiday reports the partnership between the companies means Olympics-related content will be on Facebook and Instagram during the 2016 Games. With the help of Facebook and Instagram staffers, NBC Olympics will produce Facebook live videos as well as short-form clips featuring highlights and interviews with athletes and NBC personalities, Digiday says.
Time Inc. Plans to Lay Off Over 100 Workers (The Wall Street Journal)
Time Inc. is laying off an estimated 110 people across all areas of the company. The move comes on the heels of a major corporate reorganization and retooling of its sales and marketing staff, reports The Wall Street Journal. As part of its reorganization efforts, Time has created new teams to focus on specific advertising categories in a bid to sell more advertising and advertising services to marketers across all its titles, The Journal reports.
‘Eager to Use it’: Inside The New York Times’ Snapchat Team (Digiday)
In the year-plus since Snapchat launched Discover, it’s become a crowded laboratory for publishers, where shops ranging from The Wall Street Journal to Cosmopolitan to iHeartRadio experiment with how best to engage the millennials who open the app every day, Digiday says. The New York Times is using a regular account to post stories, and thanks to a core team of eight, the Times has filed stories everywhere from Angola to Hiroshima, from the runways of New York Fashion Week to the cabin of Donald Trump’s press jet.
Pinterest Launching Fully Integrated Native Video Player (SocialTimes)
Not wanting to be left out of the video frenzy, Pinterest recently announced it’s developing a fully integrated native video player, SocialTimes says. Product manager Steve Davis revealed the news in a blog post, saying the new video player and other improvements—chief among them personalized video recommendations—“will start hitting Pinterest over the next few months.”
