Blog Profiles: Alternative Music Blogs
Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. Our latest roundup recognizes a few unique alternative music blogs we think you should check out. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.
February has been a great month for new indie/alternative music.
Franz Ferdinand, MGMT, and The Wombats all dropped their new albums on the same day (which was probably a hassle for the people at my apartment complex, who received at least three different packages addressed to Savannah Tanbusch).
The Brit Awards were hosted just last week, too, resulting in some big wins for Gorillaz and Foo Fighters.
Also, my mom just got a tattoo of a 45 RPM adapter. So I think alternate music blogs is a good topic to cover this week.
1. Louder Than War
Everything you need to know about Louder Than War is summed up in their manifesto. But, to give you the general breakdown: Louder Than War is — at its roots — a punk website.
They’ve abandoned the idea of genres and any notion that music is supposed to stay within a certain classification. And they literally cover everything.

2. Drunken Werewolf
Drunken Werewolf makes it easy to support independent bands and lesser-known talent.
The blog is primarily run by founder and Bristolian blogger, Tiffany Daniels. It focuses on covering independent and unsigned artists, which is something I feel is desperately needed.
The real gem of this site is the “Introducing” section. It showcases artists whose excellent music may otherwise go missed.
Introducing: An Early Bird is one of the posts I enjoyed.

3. Alternative Nation
This is the place to go for news about grunge bands (and, as a huge supporter of the British response to American Grunge, britpop, I felt the need to include it.)
It started in 2009 as a GrungeReport.com, and later evolved to cover any genre of music that fit into the alternative rock category — with a specific focus on grunge.
Its founder and lead reporter, Brett Buchanan, also ran social media for Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots, which is just too cool.

4. Diffuser
Came for the music, stayed for the article about Liam Gallagher getting his teeth pulled out by German police officers.
Diffuser is doing something important for music sites: emphasizing the role that pop-culture plays in music (whether it’s hip-hop, indie music, or metal).
It’s owned by Townsquare Media, a media company that also runs ComicsAlliance and ScreenCrush. So it makes sense that Diffuser would have its fingers in many pies.
