Blog Profiles: Dog Blogs, Volume 2

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. We just can’t get enough of dog blogs, so we’ve made a second list of even more favorites. Make sure to check out Volume 1. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Blog Profiles Dog BlogsFor as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a dog’s person — meaning I wanted a dog.

We’re talking decades of pining. There were letters to Santa and detailed, contractual promises I laid out for my parents — none of which they accepted. We were cat people. And, once I was old enough to make my own choices, then came the long wait for the right conditions (house with a yard, calm lifestyle, etc.).

Last December, the wait was over: We went to an adoption event and came home with a Lab mix.

There is so much to learn about our four-legged friends and infinite resources to help — whether you need advice on potty training or prey drive issues.

This week, I’m highlighting some legit dog person blogs that cover all the bases.

1. Labrador Training HQ

This blog has helped me a lot! It’s an exhaustive resource on all the particulars of caring for a Lab.

I pull up this site when looking for the right way to address and correct dangerous or bad behavior (like chasing cars). It also reviews products — so if you’re in the market for an indestructible chew toy, it has you covered.

2. The Other End of the Leash

The Other End of the Leash is headed up by Patricia McConnell, Ph.D., a zoologist and certified applied animal behaviorist.

McConnell has a personal and rather detailed approach that is balanced by her deep knowledge of animals and people.

The blog is a great place to turn if you’re looking for the full scoop on issues — like whether the benefits of playing fetch outweigh the risks. McConnell also solicits feedback and her posts have plenty of comments, which tends to elevate the conversation.

3. Dog Vlog

Funny guy Drew Lynch and his incredibly sweet service dog Stella share their adventures via Youtube. Lynch is hilarious, and stoic Stella is closed captioned for your enjoyment.

The vlog is edgy entertainment that enlightens. Also, their friendship makes you feel the warm and fuzzies.

4. Cesar’s Way

And then there’s Cesar Millan — the ultimate dog person! He’s famous for rehabilitating dogs and training people.

If you’re on a quest to better understand a dog, you are sure to cross paths with this guy.
