Blog Profiles: Career Women Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. The conversation this week is all about career women blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

We’re continuing our celebration of International Women’s Day and keeping the focus on women for this week’s Blog Profiles.

In the U.S., women make up 38.8% of the total labor force (a number that took a large hit once the pandemic hit). And as automation continues to threaten jobs in several industries, 40 million to 160 million women may need to transition to new occupations, mostly higher-skilled positions, by 2030, according to research from McKinsey & Company.

These outstanding blogs help professional women advance in their jobs, switch careers, boost their interview skills and more.

1. Career Contessa

This blog is designed to help women “cultivate successful careers through expert advice, interviews, and videos, one-on-one mentoring, online skills-based courses and resources, and a curated job board that speaks to our audience.”

In addition to all the amazing resources on the site, Career Contessa also provides a 28-day Kickstart Plan that includes weekly emails, curated advice and homework like worksheets and quizzes. Choose from three available tracks: Find a Job, Make More Money and Learn New Skills.

It was tough to choose just a few posts to highlight, but these ones stood out to me: 7 Women-Run Podcasts That Will Make You A Smarter Human; 7 Tips to Get Over Your Fear of Public Speaking; and The Un-Importance of Being Liked at Work.

2. Career Girl Daily

Founded in London in 2014, Career Girl Daily “encourages and supports women to be their best selves.” The blog is managed by CGD London, which develops products like daily planners, diaries, and desk accessories.

Posts cover organization, career, and financial tips that ensure professional women have all the information they need to meet and exceed their goals. CGD posts focus a lot on getting into and staying in a positive mindset and finding ways to expand your knowledge, whether it be at work or in your personal life.

These Four Hacks Will Help You Smash Any Goal You Set Yourself; 5 Types Of Goals Successful Women Always Set Themselves; and Success School: The 6 Steps To Success In Life are great reads.

3. Strong Female Leaders

The Strong Female Leaders blog profiles “the great women leaders of past and present,” and aims to “leverage their stories of courage, passion and dedication to their life’s work to send a positive message to our visitors.”

The blog features inspirational profiles of successful women, as well as tips for success in the workplace. And if you need inspiration between posts, Strong Female Leaders also regularly shares “Plan for Success Quotes.”

4. Corporette

If you’re back to working in the office and had to put away the sweatpants, this is the blog to check out. Corporette is a fashion and lifestyle blog for “overachieving chicks who need to look professional but want to look fashionable.” Kat Griffin, a former Wall Street lawyer, started the blog in 2008 when she noticed that professional women were resorting to only a few stores for their workplace wardrobes.

I’m a jeans and T-shirt person, even at work, so I was really drawn to this site and its posts with great style ideas for the office. There are posts covering suits for interviews, business casual and more. Daily workwear reports focus on one specific staple that you should have in your closet.

Here are a few helpful posts: Frugal Friday’s Workwear Report: Long-Sleeve Knit Moto Jacket; Disengaging Instead of Quitting (vs. Leaning Out vs. Work-Life Balance); and The Hunt: Great Camisoles for Work Outfits.
