Blog Profiles: Grocery Store Blogs

Welcome to Blog Profiles! Each week, we select a topic and handful of blogs that do a great job contributing to the conversation. The unique topic this week is grocery store blogs. Do you have a blog that deserves recognition? Tweet our writers at @BeyondBylines.

Grocery Store Blogs We Love - mediablog.prnewswire.com

My entire household has moved in the last week and we now live directly across from a Costco. Since I begin work at 6 a.m. every morning, I’m guaranteed a front-row seat to the Costco line that starts to form at 8 a.m. each day.

I never knew grocery store enthusiasts existed en masse until just about everyone had something to say to my housemates and me about Costco.

1. IloveCostco.com

John created this blog back in 2008. He comes from humbler roots and really knows how to save when he needs to. His Costco-focused blog has posts ranging from updates about the stores to reviews to just general life updates regarding finances and the like that may impact his future shopping expeditions.

From his “About Me” section alone, you can tell John’s blog is very straightforward and relatable, which is one of the reasons why I gravitated toward it.

Posts I liked: Extreme Saving – Paying myself first; and Roasted Garlic Cauli Dip at Costco Midwest.

2. What’s Good at Trader Joe’s?

Husband and wife team Nathan and Sonia began this blog in 2010, recognizing that there are some hits and some misses with Trader Joe’s and there’s no palpable way to discern what’s good and what isn’t. They were later joined by best friend Russ to streamline the review process and make it easier for the public to access.

Their review process consists of rating each product out of 10 and then filing them in six easy-to-navigate hierarchies of goodness. This categorical rating system alone is what made me enjoy this blog (just because it’s easy for me to lose the plot on review sites).

Posts I loved: Trader Joe’s Thai Green Curry Simmer Sauce; and Trader Joe’s Ginger Turmeric Granola.

3. Trader Joe’s List

This “blog” is a little different than the others because it’s actually a vlog. My housemate actually gave me the idea for the grocery-themed blog roundup, solely because of Natasha’s reviews and Instagram posts.

Natasha is considered one of the top Trader Joe’s influencers, with 1.3 million followers on Instagram. Like What’s Good at Trader Joe’s, she posts product reviews, but she also films weekly grocery hauls and has different Trader Joe’s recipes that she creates.

Posts I enjoyed: What $40 and an ice cream craving can buy you a Trader Joe’s; and New Items OH MY $154 Trader Joe’s Summer Haul.

4. Aldi Reviewer

I feel like Aldi is taking over; there was one near our old apartment and now we’ve moved a block away from another one.

This site primarily focuses on Aldi US (and occasionally Trader Joe’s), with several writers blogging about items available for purchase all over the nation. They’ve created a guide for first-time Aldi shoppers and they recommend reading it over before delving deep into the blog.

With the different contributors, you can guarantee that there will be a wide-depth in reviews, which is another thing I like about this blog. It also uncovers some of the mysteries of Aldi (if you had any questions about the stores in general).

Posts you should check out: Bake Shop Apple Cider Donuts; and How Are Aldi and Lidl Related?
