What’s not to like about a road trip?

Road trips are cost-effective, completely customizable, and help travelers avoid the airport. And as the travel industry continues its rebound, road trips are consistently one of travelers’ top choices this summer, according to recent press releases.

Once the weather starts to warm up, I’m ready to hit the road, so I’m in the market for fun road trip blogs.

These are a few of my favorites.

1. Roadtrippers

Co-founded by James Fisher and Tatiana Parent, Roadtrippers is a travel planning platform that’s also available as an app. It recently hit major milestones of 35 million trips and 24 billion miles planned through its app.

If you’re a planner and love making itineraries, this site is for you. Users can plan a road trip and the tool will estimate fuel costs (key at the moment) and provide suggestions for fun stops along the way.

The site has a great selection of trip guides, covering topics like the best kid-friendly campgrounds and how to explore major cities in 48 hours.

The Magazine section has user travel experiences and news to help you plan your ideal road trip.

2. Road Trip USA

Jamie Jensen wrote Road Trip USA, published by Moon Travel Guides, which includes incredibly detailed information for 11 classic American road trips.

The trips include the Pacific Coast Highway, historic Route 66, and the Appalachian Trail.

The Road Trip USA site lets you browse the different routes for inspiration when planning a road trip. The posts help you find fun roadside attractions, Americana, and photo ops along the way.

3. Road Trips & Coffee

This blog is written by Jason, an avid road-tripper who travels the country and writes guides, itineraries and gear reviews for his readers. He’s passionate about road trips, photography and writing – which makes this an ideal blog for this roundup.

Jason hates driving on the interstate, so his guides and itineraries are perfect for anyone looking to take the scenic route even if it takes a bit longer to reach the destination. You’ll find plenty of road trip inspiration for the mid-Atlantic, Midwest and Southeast regions of the U.S.

4. We Are Global Travellers

Blogger and traveler Mollie originally started this blog in 2015 to document her own adventures. Since then, the site’s Facebook following grew and she decided to rebrand in 2021 and expand the creator team.

“We aim to provide the inspiration, the knowledge and the tools for our readers (you) to get out there and live your dreams too,” the site explains. Filter content by destination, adventure type (road trips, van life, weekend getaways, etc.), or check out the “Get Inspired” section for bucket list ideas.

5. Back Road Ramblers

Married couple Tara and Eric started this blog years ago to document hiking and campground destinations. It’s since grown into a full-blown travel resource with road trip itineraries, destination inspiration, hiking and camping, and more.

Maybe my favorite part of this blog is that it’s written for “regular people who love to explore America, get outdoors, and take the long way home.” It’s an approachable blog for anyone wanting to add a bit more adventure to their life without having to quit their job to live on the road full time, for example.
